DC's 'The Batman', 'The Flash', 'Black Adam', and 'Shazam! 2' Delayed

Updated: Oct 16, 2020

DC Films has announced the delay of four of their upcoming films, following Marvel Studios' recent reshuffling of their own film slate.

The Batman moves from October 1st, 2021 to March 4th, 2022, clearing the way for Dune, which was recently delayed as well. Meanwhile, The Flash ran from June 3rd, 2022 to November 4th, 2022, and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods moved from November 4th, 2022 to June 2nd, 2023. Black Adam has been removed from the release schedule entirely - it was originally scheduled for December 22nd, 2021, and seemed to be on track to make that date.

I think that releasing The Batman in March is odd. It's a weird time of year considering the tone of the trailer, and it's sandwiched between Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I don't understand why they sacrificed it for Dune when that film could've taken Black Adam's Christmas release instead of moving The Matrix 4 up by four months to that date, allowing The Batman to stay in October. I'm surprised that Black Adam has been removed entirely, as Warner Bros. seemed to be pushing the movie hard, especially with the Rock hyping the film up on social media at every opportunity. The Flash being delayed yet again means pretty much nothing to me anymore - that movie has gone through so many release dates and directors that I was seriously doubting it would ever be made, and while I'm excited for Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck to both return as Batman, I have no interest in Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. I've never liked the casting choice, didn't think he was good in Justice League, and I think it's disgusting that neither him nor Warner Bros. has made any kind of statement about the incident that occurred in April 2020.

What do you think of the delays? Which one are you most disappointed about? Comment below!

Wonder Woman 1984 is still scheduled for release on December 25th, 2020, but could move into 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to make theatrical moviegoing difficult. The Suicide Squad remains on track for its August 6th, 2021 date.
