Tatiana Maslany Cast as Title Character in 'She-Hulk' Series for Disney+

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

After tapping Kat Coiro as the director for Marvel Studios' She-Hulk on Disney+, the series has now cast Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters!

Maslany is known for her Emmy-winning performance on Orphan Black and has recently starred in HBO's Perry Mason, while Parks and Recreation fans will recognize her as Nadia Statsky, a nurse that main character Tom Haverford dated for a short time. She joins Coiro and Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao on the series, which is aiming to start production later this year for a 2022 release.

Jennifer Walters is Bruce Banner's cousin and a successful lawyer. After an accident that required an emergency blood transfusion from Banner, Walters gains superpowers and becomes She-Hulk. However, a key difference between the two is that Walters retains her intelligence and personality when she transforms. With the rumored debuts of Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk in the series as well as the potential return of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, She-Hulk is one of several projects that appear to be reviving storylines dropped after The Incredible Hulk.

With this announcement, Maslany is the latest actress to land a lead role in a Marvel Studios project. After 10 years without a female-led film, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been making up for lost time with recent releases Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel, while upcoming projects led by female superheroes include WandaVision, Black Widow, and Ms. Marvel.

What do you think of Tatiana Maslany's casting? I would've loved to see Stephanie Beatriz or Aubrey Plaza tackle this role, but I'm excited to see Maslany's take on the character. I think it's time to check out Orphan Black! Comment below!
