Oscar Isaac Cast as Moon Knight in Marvel Studios' Newest Disney+ Series

Oscar Isaac steps into his third Marvel role as Moon Knight, the latest superhero to get their own Disney+ original series.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's last lead role for Phase Four has been cast: Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Marc Spector in Moon Knight on Disney+! Isaac, known for his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, is no stranger to the Marvel universe - however, while he has been part of the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises, this is his first Marvel Cinematic Universe role. He played the powerful mutant villain Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse before joining Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as Miguel O'Hara, better known as Spider-Man 2099, for a cameo in the film's end-credits scene. Mohamed Diab joined the series as director earlier today, while production is set to begin later this year.

Isaac joins Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk) and Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) as the first new superheroes getting their own Disney+ series, as the other MCU series are focused on characters returning from the franchise's films. WandaVision will be the first Disney+ original series from Marvel Studios, with a release date set for late 2020.

Marc Spector is a mercenary who was left for dead in the desert, before being resurrected with superpowers by the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. He has multiple personalities and dissociative identity disorder, calling into question his existence as the avatar of Khonshu, as he could simply be insane. Moon Knight has often be compared to Batman as he is also a wealthy businessman using his fortune to fund his vigilante activities.

Moon Knight seems like it will be an interesting show, but personally it's low down on my list of most-anticipated upcoming Marvel projects. I'm much more excited for the other new Disney+ series coming out first. I do think Isaac will do a great job, but I'm surprised Marvel didn't cast someone Jewish as that's a major part of Marc Spector's character.

What do you think of Oscar Isaac's casting? Are you excited for Moon Knight? Comment below!

Moon Knight will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ sometime in 2021 or 2022.

I have mixed feelings about this. There’s so many actors out there and yet the same ones are cast over and over again, even as 3 different characters within the same franchise. At the same time, Oscar Isaac is very talented and will nail this role, I’m sure.
