The LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street set has been revealed!
It releases on November 1st and will retail for $119.99 in the U.S.
In a first for LEGO Ideas, this set includes new element molds to represent the heads of fan-favorite characters Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert, and Ernie. While this was previously against the rules of the platform, the guidelines were recently amended to allow new molds to be created at the LEGO designers' discretion, although fan submissions are still prohibited from including proposals for new pieces.
The set includes the famous brownstone where the characters live, as well as Mr. Hooper's store. There are many references to characters that couldn't be included in the set, like Grover, the Count, and Abby Cadabby. Oscar the Grouch can be seen in his trash can outside the apartment, and there are many other references to the show in the interior.
I think this set looks awesome, but there are some problems. It would've been nice to see characters like Grover and the Count as minifigures, but my biggest issue is with the builds. The brownstone is missing the third window above the door, which is a huge omission and drags the set down a little bit in my opinion. Also, the side of Hooper's store being open means that you can't display this set from straight-on, as you'll see the interior of the store but the exterior of the brownstone. I think that side should have been covered up.
